Useful Books (for PGs).
On the second day of my joining Surgery Residency I was asked to report for emergency on call in the afternoon as part of orientation. It so happened that on my way I bought and carried my first copy of Schwartz’s Principles of Surgery. As I entered the whole room burst out laughing! I was later to learn that in first year you eat and then sleep whenever you can; the books can be used as pillows (maybe you learn by conduction).
One book is used as a basic text and can be supplemented by the others-
1. Schwartz Principles of Surgery
2. Sabiston-
3. Greenfield- Not much used in India.
4. Bailey and Love A Short practice of Surgery is to be read all the time but is insufficient on most topics.
5. Pye’s Surgical Handicraft- Very useful initially
6. Das Clinical Methods or you may use Hamilton Bailey.
7. Hamilton Bailey’s Emergency Surgery.
8. One book which I found very useful is Mastery of Surgery.
