{"id":38,"date":"2007-10-29T23:23:16","date_gmt":"2007-10-29T23:23:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jha.in\/?p=41"},"modified":"2007-10-29T23:23:16","modified_gmt":"2007-10-29T23:23:16","slug":"in-case-you-were-unaware","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jha.in\/?p=38","title":{"rendered":"In case you were unaware!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>If romantic fiction is any guide, any doctor looking for love would be advised to be an emergency room surgeon or deliver babies rather than practise colon resection or remove in-grown toenails.<\/p>\n<p>So says Irish Psychiatrist Brendan Kelly, who has probed at length into the burgeoning literary field of medical romance.<\/p>\n<p>In an offbeat letter published in Saturday&#8217;s Lancet, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thelancet.com\/journals\/lancet\/article\/PIIS0140673607616316\/fulltext\">Kelly describes the typical plot structure and characterization<\/a> ( the Lancet-reg required)<\/p>\n<p>As for the storyline, novelists skirted such hazards as malpractice suits for removing the wrong kidney or infection by a hospital superbug.(too hum drum?)<\/p>\n<p>Instead, they stuck to a tried-and-trusted formula of the doctor as a saviour in a white coat.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-style:italic;\">How does he do it?
